A race record mirroring pedigree influences
Taking the Saudi Cup (9f dirt) and the Sheema Classic (12f turf) on a 4 weeks turnaround, Mishriff mirrored the outstanding versatility embedded in his pedigree, a rare ability passed on by influential dual-purpose sires.
Looking at Mishriff’s athletic frame, there is a lot about him to remind us of his maternal great-grandsire Elusive Quality, a highly adaptable and very fast member of the Mr Prospector line who set records on turf and dirt and made quite an impact in France through his successful sire son Elusive City, who built himself a deserved reputation for moving his mares up.
Mishriff's damsire Raven’s Pass ellicited an IFHA rating of 129 off consecutive wins in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes and in the Breeders’ Cup Classic, where he became the second Euro shipper to defeat the Americans in the nation’s dirt finale.
Rewinding further back, Raven’s Pass broodmare sire Lord At War was a champion in his native Argentina and later became a multiple Grade 1 winner on the dirt in the US before going on to a successful stud career in Kentucky. He is notably the broodmare sire of Pioneerof the Nile, whose son American Pharoah ended a 36-years American Triple Crown drought, who is establishing himself as a highly respected dual-purpose stallion.
“I think there are very few horses that can switch surfaces like that.”
